The contents of fruits and vegetables are no longer what they once were.

Our tables sag under the abundance of our food and what we eat is often from the finest: strawberries at Christmas, German early potatoes as early as June, grapes in May, broccoli the whole year through. So, aside from being overweight, we should be fit as a fiddle. Vitamins, minerals, trace elements are available in plenitude. But this is a mistake. We are malnourished in these areas. We suffer deficiencies in our abundance, because the contents of fruits and vegetables are no longer what they once were.

Scientists are therefore sounding the alarm. "We have to assume that more than two thirds of all Germans aged 50 and over suffer increasingly from subclinical deficiency conditions. The people are not yet sick, but their immune systems are weakened. They suffer from constant tiredness, concentration weakness and sleeping disorders. Regeneration no longer takes place. There is a lack of vitamins, trace elements and minerals such as magnesium, zinc, selenium and vitamin E. The list goes on and on."

Even younger people are experiencing deficiencies in these areas. Clear deficiency conditions have also been ascertained in the 20 to 35-year-old age group. We need a much higher volume of vitamins and minerals than we used to. The reasons: stress due to the growing work load, intensity of leisure activities and the environmental impact. We do not rest enough and drink too much alcohol.

Older people are even more severely affected. The nutritional condition of 300 octogenarian was examined. The result: two thirds of them suffered from vitamin deficiency - above all, A and C.

The wrong way

The opinion is widespread that the decrease in nutrients and the resulting threat of deficiency can be easily repaired by taking single substances or multi-vitamin preparations. But capsules and tablets lead us in the wrong direction. Such solution approaches are suitable for machines but not for living organisms.
